Sunset Grudge - Hex vs Broadshield
« on: July 02, 2016, 09:38:28 pm »
(Open to the first challenger; mainly a way to try fleshing out his abilities before he gets into a canon fight.)

Hex stalks warily through the deserted streets. His hoofsteps echoed back to him through the eerie silence of a town whose name was long forgotten, joined only by the company of his steady breath. He was grateful that the sun was close to the horizon; he was ever so slightly too warm in his gambeson, but didn't dare remove either it or his helm. He would find no friends here. He couldn't afford to lower his guard.

A faint sound behind him caused him to whirl about, but it turned out only to be a signpost falling as its fastenings gave way to untold years of rust. He let out his breath as he turned back around.

He was coming to a corner soon. He'd love to have the cover of the shadows, but he was too noisy to be safe there, where he wouldn't have enough warning if a threat lying in wait decided to pounce. He kept to the middle of the road, alert and ready to respond to any threat he might find.

Hopefully.

Challenger: Broadshield. An ex-Equestrian military Corporal, now Commander of Special Forces Team Equinox.

Strengths: Is incredibly agile in the air, and is proficient in wielding any kind of weapon, as well as using anything he can find to use as weapons against his opponents.

Weaknesses: Possesses average amount of physical strength, as well as average stamina. Not as fast on the ground on hoof compared to him flying.

Equipment:
  • Katana: A deadly, extremely sharpened Katana from Neighpon, easily able to cut through armor and flesh with a single slice.
  • Throwing Knives: Holds three of them at the moment. Can be used and thrown for ranged attacks.
  • Kriss Vector SMG: A Kriss Vector SMG with HOLO Sights, foregrip, extendable/foldable stock, red dot sight, and a 40 round magazine capacity.
  • M1911: Regular side-arm with red dot sight/flashlight combo with Full Metal Jacket rounds. 10 round magazine capacity.
  • Grenades: Flashbang grenades which explode with a bright flash and loud bang, capable of stunning anyone nearby. Smoke grenades which release a thick plume of smoke to disorient the enemy. HE grenades which release a flurry of shrapnel and explosives when it goes off.

Abilities:
  • CQC: Close Quarters Combat, a mix of various fighting styles used to subdue and even kill opponents.
  • Weapons: Proficient in using any weapon, can even use whatever is around him as a makeshift weapon.
  • Agility: Large (temporary) increase in speed on the ground or in the air. Can cause temporary fatigue for Broadshield who will need to catch his breath.
  • Environmental thrust: Uses any part of an environment as a launch pad, to dramatically increase his launch speed into the air, or even into his opponents.

As the stranger makes his way through the seemingly abandoned town, he would soon find himself surrounded by four hooded and masked figures, almost like assassins. Before they can do anything further, a loud voice is heard throughout the town. "STAND DOWN." The four immediately back away from the individual, making their way towards Broadshield, guarding him. "You four, I'll handle this." he says to them before they all dart away into the shadows. Broadshield continues to silently stare at the trespasser, who was roughly 50 meters away from him, the sun at Broadshield's back, almost making it look like some wild western film where the hero would be facing the villain, his back to the sun. "You are in the wrong place. This is restricted area under authority of Crown Princess Celestia, under the watch of Equinox. I will give you one chance to turn away, or I will make you pay." he says, pulling out his M1911 and his Katana, his Katana to his side, the M1911 trained directly at the intruder's head. "Once again. Turn away, or I'll send you packing." he repeats, a steely, determined look on his face, ready to fight.

Hex tenses as the assailants appear, and doesn't relax even when they're out of sight. He's seen the barrels of enough guns to know that he doesn't want that one pointed at him. Thankfully his helmet protected him from the worst of the sun's glare, but the pegasus is still irritating to look at.

"Restricted area? Nice signage, then. Hope you're getting a raise, maybe then you'll do your job." His voice sounds deep, distorted by the metallic grating through which he breathes. "Nopony has authority here. Nopony cares. But I guess when you're this far from civilization, laws don't really matter much, do they? Times seem pretty desperate wherever. Guess I can't blame you. But you're certainly not getting in my way."

He closes his eyes for a second to concentrate, and a blinding flash bursts from the sunstone set into the forehead of his helm. At the same instant, he rolls to his left and extends his forelegs; three cords shoot out from each metal boot and attach themselves to a building about 10 meters in front and to the right and start retracting, pulling him towards it quickly.

Broadshield couldn't help but smirk at this stranger, acting all tough, trying to insult him. "I'll be sure to drag your pathetic plot to the Princess' to explain to you exactly why I'm here, and I'll be sure to do that once I'm done wiping the floor with you." he says, noticing the gleam in the stone in the forehead of his helmet. He's had his experience of flashbang grenades, and he could only guess that this would do the same thing. With that, he quickly closes his eyes, and counts to 2. He then opens his eyes and sees him starting to almost fly towards a nearby building. "I don't think so." he says, taking aim with his pistol. Taking aim, tracking the target to score hits, he pulls the trigger several times, emptying the magazine. 5 bullets aimed for his body, the other 5 aimed at the thin line. These bullets had the capacity to penetrate armour and skin. A successful hit would definitely deal damage to him or the line.

"I'll have you know my plot is- GAHH"

Hex takes a shot directly to his left hip, causing him to instinctively release his hold with his right boot cables. It alters his trajectory enough that he only takes one more graze to his right foreleg and a ricochet off his helmet that leaves him with a ringing in his ears. Save the retorts for later, I guess...

One of the three cables from his left boot takes a hit, snapping it. He releases the other two and takes aim at another building, to his left and closer to his assailant. He misjudges and only connects with one set of cables; and once he starts swinging, the crumbling stucco gives way and he's left in an uncontrolled barrel roll. He shouts unintelligibly, on a direct broadside collision course with the red pegasus.

If Hex was looking, he would have seen a slightly amused and surprised look on Broadshield's face. Broadshield was slightly surprised and amazed that he managed to score a few hits. "Sloppy. If you weren't mouthing off, you'd have easily dodged them." he says before noticing the assailant barreling towards him after a misfire from his hooks. Broadshield dodges with ease, but not before pulling out his katana and making a slash at the pony while he uncontrollably barreled past him.

A slice across the left shoulder elicits another grunt of pain, as well as a flash from the sunstone. Fire erupts in all directions from Hex, giving the area a good scorching.

He lands just beyond the burned ground, kicking up a thick cloud of dust until he rolls to a stop... several feet away? Hard to tell through the dust, though at least the sun isn't in his eyes anymore. He slowly rises to his feet, struggling to catch his breath. "Hey, we can't... all... be career criminals."

He winces as he puts his weight on his left side, his wounds sending lines of fire to his brain. He'd have to get that taken care of soon, but for now about all he can do is stand ready for whatever form the next attack will take.

Broadshield doesn't see the explosion coming, and he is knocked back a few feet from the explosion, but is still standing. He manages to pat out a few small fires on his fur from the explosion, looking annoyed. "Had enough yet? Or do you insist on fighting, even though you won't win?" he says coldly. He then quickly reloads his pistol and takes aim once again at Hex's head, slowly backing away and creating distance. "You're not going to win this fight, you never will. Leave now, and you will leave this place alive. Stay, and you will die alone here. What will it be, Hex Schwambart?" he says, cocking the pistol, preparing his katana and rifle, preparing himself for whatever Hex does next.

Hex backs away slowly, considering his options. The rapid disappearance of shadows means that the sun has just about slipped beneath the horizon; his sunstone, with nearly all the energy spent, won't be seeing more charge until sunrise. On the plus side, he can start using the moonstone next to it since the moon will be out soon.

He just needs a little time.

"What ever happened to bringing my precious plot-" which bumps into the building behind him presently- "back to your fairytale princess?" He edges to his left, towards a door he remembered seeing.

"Don't worry your pretty flank, I'll keep to my word. But as for you, you aren't going anywhere." he says harshly, firing several more rounds at Hex. The first two shots intentionally aimed to his left and right simultaneously past his head to scare him. The next 4 shots aimed at his legs to incapacitate him. The last 4 shots aimed at his head. Two aimed for his face, the other two aimed for the stones on his helm. With luck, these shots would easily render his combat ability and capability useless.

Once the trigger is pulled the first time, Hex uses the last of the energy in the sunstone to send a beam of fire lancing towards the pistol. While weaker than normal, it should be able to reduce the front end to slag and make firing impossible provided it isn't moved out of the way in time.

At the same time, he shifts his weight off of his right front leg, which he points toward the edge of the doorway behind him. The three cables shoot out and latch onto it, then retract to pull him towards it. The abrupt pull jerks his head into the path of one of the side bullets, which collides with and ricochets off his glass eye hole, leaving a crack.

He swings with the pull to throw himself through the doorway, his toe cables releasing the doorway. He isn't able to catch his footing before hitting the ground again, but what appears to be a saloon-style bar stops him before he rolls too far. He pulls himself around to the other side of it and gets low.

He takes a deep breath and concentrates. The moonstone atop his helmet glows gently as it releases most of its stored power, and Hex sighs in relief as most of the pain leaves his wounds. It's not a proper healing spell, more like a stopgap painkiller, but at the very least he should quit leaving a blood trail wherever he goes.

He peeks out from behind the corner of the bar, attempting to get a view of the doorway through the scattered chairs and tables in the room.

Broadshield is only able to get himself out of the way of the beam, but the gun gets turned to a hot, molten pile of metal as he drops it on the ground. "THAT'S ENOUGH!" he yells out as he follows him inside the building, pulling out his Vector. Before he does anything, he throws in a flash grenade into the building, waiting for it to go off, filling the room with bright lights and a deafening bang, he moves into cover, before firing at the bar, some shots penetrating the wood.

Hex's vision swims and his ears ring, and he shrinks as much as he can while closing his eyes. He doesn't hear the rhythm of the gun, but he feels a few of the bullets as they sink into his gambeson, luckily slowed enough by the wood that none of them make it all the way through.

He opens his eyes and glances around his limited field of safety, unable to quite see straight. "So yurr surrrr..." He cuts himself off as he realizes that he can't hear his voice, the ringing in his ears too loud. The realization that the pegasus could be sneaking up on him from anywhere sends him into a panic, and he bolts straight ahead - out from cover, until he collides and trips over a circular table, taking it with him as he breaks clean through the wall on the far side of it. Standing with a groan, he lurches to his left.

Above, the stars begin appearing in the sky. Or maybe he just hit his head pretty good. Who can tell?

Right as he finishes off his current magazine, he watches Hex bolt out, only to send himself crashing through a nearby wall. Quickly reloading, he makes his way to the left side of the building. Spotting Hex, clearly dazed, he opens fire, bullets aimed for every part of his body: his head and helmet, his body, his limbs, making sure he hits something so that Hex can no longer fight, while keeping his distance in case Hex pulls something out of his hypothetical sleeves.

Seeing the pegasus come out of the building, Hex leaps. The Moonstone on his head gleams in tandem with the Moon itself as it crests the horizon. The area is flooded with a stark white glow, and time seems to stand still.

The bullets, robbed of their force but not their trajectory, impact softly on his armor and begin to fall away. Hex pulls his right foreleg back, preparing to swing downwards as soon as he lands in front of his opponent.

The spell ends, and abruptly everything returns to full speed. Hex judged his jump accurately, and lands with a swing where Broadshield was provided he hadn't moved. The moonstone goes completely dark, having been completely depleted by the magic; Hex thinks absentmindedly that he probably won't be able to use any of its other spells for at least a good ten minutes, even with how full and strong the moon is tonight. At least he should be able to see clearly.
